    Work mode blocks message submission in BYOK mode when local browser/computer tools are enabled

    What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

    26….1013.40934

    What subscription do you have?

    BYOK

    What platform is your computer?

    Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

    What issue are you seeing?

    When I submit a message in Work mode while using BYOK, I get this error:```text
    Error submitting message
    Work browser access requires an authenticated account
    ```The browser and computer are local resources on my machine. However, the client requires a ChatGPT account identity when initializing local browser/computer automation, even though model inference is configured through BYOK.
    Inspection of the installed client suggests that requireWorkBrowserIdentity is enabled when conversationDetailMode is STEPS_PROSE. If a node_repl configuration exists but no cached ChatGPT authenticated principal is available, the client throws the error above.
    This blocks message submission during tool initialization, before the agent can use any tools.
    What steps can reproduce the bug?
    1. Configure a custom Responses API model provider using BYOK authentication, without signing in to a ChatGPT account.
    2. Enable local browser/computer automation.
    3. Select Work mode.
    4. Submit a text message.
    Relevant configuration:```toml
    [desktop]
    conversationDetailMode = "STEPS_PROSE"
    [features]
    browser_use = true
    browser_use_external = true
    computer_use = true
    ``Message submission fails with:``text
    Work browser access requires an authenticated account
    ```No session ID or token/context usage measurements are available for the failed submission.

    What is the expected behavior?

    Work mode should allow BYOK users to submit messages and use their own local browser/computer tools, subject to local permissions and approvals.

    A missing ChatGPT account identity should not block message submission when model access is already configured through BYOK.

    Switching out of Work mode or disabling local automation removes functionality I want to use and does not resolve the underlying compatibility issue.
